Follow these step-by-step instructions to make your own blueberry jam; perfect for all those with a sweet tooth.
Ingredients
- 500 g blueberries
- 500 g “special jam” sugar
- 5 g lemon juice (approx. 1 tsp.)
Ustensils
- Large saucepan
- Knife
- Scales
- Plate
- Skimmer
- 4 Bonne Maman 250 mL glass jars
Instructions:
Before you begin: To make sure your jam lasts, clean jars and caps thoroughly. Then, soak the jars and caps in a pan of boiling water for 5 to 15 minutes. Leave them to dry upside down on a clean cloth. You can also put them in the dishwasher!
Preparation:
- Select 500 g of blueberries. Rinse them whole to avoid waterlogging.
- Place them in a large saucepan and start cooking over medium heat, stirring regularly with a wooden spatula. Leave to stand for 1 hour.
- When the sugar is well incorporated, cook over a high heat for around 25 minutes, stirring constantly. Add 200 mL of water regularly to prevent the jam from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
- Cooking ends when blueberries becomes “translucent” and is evenly distributed in the preparation.
- At the end of cooking, add a teaspoon of lemon juice and bring to the boil for a few seconds. Remove from heat and remove any foam that forms on the surface.
- Immediately ladle into jars, filling to the brim. Close with the appropriate lids and turn the jars upside down on a tea towel.
- Let the jars cool before labeling them. You can then store your jam in a cool, dry place for several months.
- After opening, store your jam in the fridge and consume within a month.
